Welcome back to Read Not Guess. Today we’re going to work on words with a “Magic E” at the end like “make” and “take.”
Both parent and child will need to be able to see the screen.

Letter Name Quiz
So far we’ve focused on the sounds the letters make. But today it might be helpful to also brush up on the names of the vowels.
Specifically, can your child say the name of this letter? (It's A as in "hay" or "may.") Ask them to say the name of the letter as they point to it:

Special Rule: Magic E
Today we’re going to learn about the Magic E. Explain to your child that when a word ends with a Magic E, the "e" at the end is silent, but it makes the vowel that comes before it say its own name.
So when a word looks like this, the Magic E helps the “a” say its own name:

See if your child can sound out these words with the Magic E:

Silly Sentences
Have your child practice the Magic E with these silly sentences:
Bake the ham.
Wake the girls.
Swim in the lake.
Don’t be late.
Shake it off.
If they read these smoothly, great! If they stumble, have them keep practicing to get them right.
